"I can hear it calling my name.."
said the girl watching hopelessly at the chocolate-cake on the table.
"There is something really wrong with
you" answered her brother while swallowing a piece of ham.
I experienced the situation above this
Christmas holiday and the difference between my brother and me caught my
attention. Then I started asking friends of mine how do they feel about
chocolate it really turned out that this sweet temptation is much more
irresistible for women than it is for men. There is even a study which shows
that a third of the women dream about chocolate during the day, compared with
11% of the men. But what actually is the reason?
It turned out that many researches have been done and here are the reasons I found most interesting and likely.
- Chocolate releases dopamine (a substance which peaks during orgasm) in the female brain.
- Female's cyclic rise and fall of hormones such as estrogen and progesterone trigger a craving for chocolate.
- It’s associated with love and romance. That could be another reason why women particularly love chocolate: deep down, it makes them feel loved, cared for, and pampered.
- When women eat chocolate it affects the part of the brain which regulates sexual desire. Recent studies have shown that women who eat a little bit of chocolate a day have significantly more sex than women who don’t.
- Chocolate is possible to be so desirable for women because it is a forbidden pleasure to those on diets.
- During menstruation, women might reach out to chocolate to increase their magnesium levels as chocolate has very rich magnesium level. Magnesium helps the powerful uterine muscles relax, reducing cramping. It also helps relieve the PMS or menstrual headaches. Menstrual fatigue is another common complaint of women that magnesium can help relieve, though the exact mechanism is uncertain.
- The feminine "me-time" - definitely makes a lot of sense. This is the time when women are heartbroken in pajamas eating chocolate. Maybe we hope that the tryptophane in it would increases our brain's serotonin levels and make us feel happier.
- Another theory which explains the difference in the food preferences of men and women states that during the human evolution men were hunters, while women were gathering fruits and vegetables.
After all, no matter what your sex is, eating /normal amount of/ chocolate
will affect positively your health and mood. So, eat chocolate and feel good!
